The Dohtonbori Experience

I was craving for some takoyaki but I wanted the big one so we decided to go to Dohtonbori for some Okonomiyaki. I dont know if its just me, but, I've always felt that Okinomiyaki is the mother of  those lil takoyakis 😋. Despite the similarity of these Japanese snacks, Okonomiyaki is made from cabbage, eggs, pork and or seafoods, flour and other ingredients all mixed into a batter and grilled on an iron plate Takoyaki on the other hand is a ball shaped snack that uses a  flour-based batter cooked in a molded pan, its typically filled with minced octopus, shrimp and green onions.

Dohtonbori is the firsts and only okonomiyaki restaurant in the the Philippines that lets you cook-you-own okonomiyaki. But everytime I go there the servers cooks it for me, which is fine because I like their showmanship when they do. They also boast of authentic okonomiyaki experience.

The parentals and the kids

I really dont have anything to compare the okonomiyaki of Dohtonbori to, nonetheless their okonomiyaki is so good and definitely worth a try.

Our meal started of with a salad, which was just average. I mean there's nothing really special in the salad except that the bacon was cooked in front of you before adding it in the salad, so maybe that was the oomph in their very basic salad. The gyoza was also cooked in front of us and it was good, (actually all food were cooked in front us). The meat that we had for our yakiniku were exceptionally flavorful, I liked that even though it was thin it was well flavored, I just had to eat rice with it (rice not in the picture..hehe 😆)

Bacon Ceasar Salad
Yakiniku time!
Kalbi and Pork Yakiniku

Toss that in and lets have some Yakisoba!

Buta Yakisoba

The server said "Wow may straw si ma'am" upon seeing that we were using metal straws.

As part of my New Years's Resolution, I am committed to using Reusable straws. I just hope that I wont forget bringing it all the time, Its my little way of helping save mother earth with one straw at a time. I really hope that cafes, restaurants and most especially fast food chains would take the initiative in using alternative straws aside from the plastic ones.

Let the okonomiyaki experience begin

Deluxe Okonomiyaki

Right of the bat you can tell that I really liked their Okonomiyaki, I like the whole experience, from cooking to serving, then to of course eating! I also love that the condiments are left in the table after cooking so you can always add some more to your liking, I love adding Katsuobushi (Bonito Flakes) and a little more Okonomiyaki Sauce and Kewpie when the Okonomoyaki has been left on the griller for quite some time.

Catch the sunset while dining

Pro Tip!
For me best time to go in their MOA branch would be between 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM so that you can also experience the sun setting right in front of you while eating to complete the awesome experience. My camera didn't do justice with this breathtaking view.

Overall experience I'd give this 9 out of 10 stars.

The Schnitzel n' Chips Experience

Le dinner is served
For dinner my sister and I visited the The Nest and Lifestyle Food Park, an events place/food  park in  in Taguig to check out a newly opened food stall that serves Schnitzels! Schnitzel n' Chips has just recently opened last January 2018. The food park/Events place was easy to find even if it was far from where I live, we just used Uber and we were able to locate it with no problem. I liked the place because it wasn't too crowded and when it does during weekends when they have mini concerts you can still breath and walk comfortably, its really a nice hang out place. The food park is well curated they have all sorts of cuisine to satisfy your hunger, but for tonight, we'll be having some Schnitzel and Chips 😉.

schnitzel is meat, usually thinned by pounding with a meat tenderizer, that is fried in some kind of oil or fat. The term is most commonly used to refer to meats coated with flour, beaten eggs and bread crumbs, and then fried, but some variants such as Walliser Schnitzel are not breaded. Originating in Austria, the breaded schnitzel is popular in many countries and made using either vealmuttonchickenbeefturkeyreindeer, or pork. It is very similar to the French dish escalope, and the milanesa of Uruguay and Argentina.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some may not be really familiar with the concept of Schnitzel and Chips here in the Philippines but I think people are now more open to trying out new things when it comes to food, Schnitzel and Chips is not really a new thing here in the Philippines but they are not that popular. The concept was originally from Australia, The thick cut deep fried potatoes and not called French Fries instead they are called Chips. Yep a lil' different from the chips that we usually know here in the Philippines.

Schnitzel n' Chips stall
Pro Tip #01 You can rent a mat and have a picnic in the grass area, how cool is that?
Just ask Spencer or any of the crew.

These Koala Bears will greet you once you get to Schnitzel n' Chips Booth.
Mama Euca, Babby Lippy and Baby Tussy!

Le Menu
Only a few items on their menu but there's a guarantee that your food are cooked upon order,
a little wait time but your guaranteed that your food is hot and chips are not soggy 😋

Date night the Koalas, Mama Euca, Baby Lippy and Baby Tussy

          We ordered their best sellers:
  1. Chicken Parmigiana and Chips
  2. Chicken and Schnitzel
  3. Shepherds' Pie

We came in really hungry and I thought to myself that we might need rice because being the hungry Pinay that I am,  rice (may) always be needed, surprisingly the chips was enough. I didn't really crave for rice. By the time we got the Shepherd's Pie I was already full. I can't believe it myself! No kidding. But just in case you still need rice, they have steamed Jasmine Rice available. My fave out of the 3 things I ordered would be the Chicken and Schnitzel, the white sauce was just superb! The items are affordable considering that the serving size were big.

Chicken Parmigiana and Chips
Breaded Chicken Breast poured with Parmigiana Sauce, complimented with hot chips.
Php 199

Chicken Schnitzel
Breaded chicken breast, poured with creamy sauce of you choice, complimented with Hot Chips. (Options are mushroom, pepper or garlic sauce)
Php 189
Pro Tip #02 Ask for extra white sauce!!! 😍

Shepherd's Pie
Oven baked beef, vegetable mix, layered mashed potatoes, melted cheese.
Php 159

Overall experience I'd give this 8 out of 10 stars.
Ambiance: 9
Service: 9
Food: 7
Value for Money: 8

Will I go back to Schnitzel n' Chips and order the same things I ordered?

- Yes I will go back, and definitely I want some more of the Chicken Schnitzel and probably a beer while listening to a band on a weekend. Last time I heard Mayonnaise had a gig at The Nest Food and Lifestyle Park. Oh how I wish this place was just near my place, it so cool in there, and though it was summer and considering how its hot lately and it was cool in there, probably just that day? I don't know but another visit should answer the question 😉.

So just in case your in the area do drop by Schnitzel n' Chips for some Schnitty! Let me know how it goes in the comment section below. Thanks for reading. G'day mate!

The Kko Kko Home of Seoul Chicken Experience

I've been binge watching Kdramas lately, I just finished watching I am Not a Robot and currently I am watching Fight for my way, and every time I do this I just can't help but crave for Kfood. Is just me or does this happen to you too? Its all crazy this time I was craving for some Ramyun, Tteokbokki and fish cakes. My sister and I decided to try out Kko Kko for late lunch since we've been seeing the cheese fondue for quiet some time now and see if it'll live up to the hype. My sister and I had very high expectation from Kko Kko, if you want to find out how it fared read on.

Kko Kko Home of Seoul Chicken

We visited the Kko Kko branch at UP Town Center. We made a reservation earlier thru Booky. When we got to the place it was soooooooooo hot. Seriously feels like the AC was not working properly or something. Geeez I am about to eat ramyun and the AC wasn't helping at all, -1 for that. They have a high tech menu,  they'd present you with an Ipad to view their menu.

Kimbap - Original
Php 158.00

The Kimbap was OK, nothing special.

Let's get cookin'!

Rabboki

Korean RamenTteok (Rice Cakes), Odeng (Korean Fish Cake), White Onions, Cabbage and topped with Mozzarella Cheese simmered in a spicy soup cooked on the table.

Php 368.00

I sort of regretted ordering it because its going to be cooked on our table, the heat of that plus the the AC was not enough to cool the place 😬 We were hoping the taste would make up for it since it looks yummy when it was served in the table. The broth wasn't too spicy that's good news for people who don't like spicy food, however it wasn't rich with flavor, It was just OK, nothing special. The Tteokbokki was too soft and so was the Odeng, we didn't over cook our Rabboki because I didn't want the noodles to be over cooked and becomes too thick.

Chicken Cheese Fondue
It looks glorious.

Chicken Cheese Fondue
Melted Cheese in a bread bowl served with spicy potato wedges, homemade onion rings and boneless chicken chunks tossed in Yang Nyum Sauce of your choice

Php  658.00

Let me just tell how glorious looking this Chicken Cheese Fondue was. It was just so beautiful.

The Cheese fondue comes in a bread bowl with Fries, Onion rings and Boneless chicken chunks tossed in Yang Nyum Sauce, we opted for the Classic Soy. I really liked the onion rings than the fries.  In the menu it says it is served with potato wedge but what they gave us was fries.. I wish they had potato wedge instead since that would be perfect with the cheese fondue. The boneless chicken was drenched with the Yang Nyum that I barely tasted the chicken itself, plus, there were too much breading and very little chicken. Nonetheless the cheese fondue made everything better. I just wished that there were more melty cheese than the cheese sauce. The cheese fondue felt like it was 95% Cheese sauce and only 5% Melty cheese - Mozarella cheese. I guess this  is best for those "Chicken and Beer Moments" - referencing to My Love from the Star Kdrama 😉.

Cheon Song-yi x Chicken and Beer

Overall experience I'd give this 7 out of 10 stars.

Will I go back to Kko Kko and order the same things I ordered?
- Yes I will go back but I wont order the same things that I have ordered.

The Alley by Vikings Experience: A trip down The Alley

What a better way to celebrate the LOVE Month than being with your most favorite person surrounded by food. Yaaasss! For dinner we decided to head to U.P. Town Center to check out  The Alley by Vikings, the latest food concept of The Vikings Group. Pretty much, The Alley is like a food park that has its own little stalls where you can order food and eat at your table, except that this one is well curated and the best part is you can eat and drink all you want.

The concept of the place was nice but at the start of meal during dinner the alleys can be a bit too crowded when you walk to check out each stalls. There were a total of 15 stalls (If you include the Bibingka stand-alone stall) which offers different food that ranges from Pinoy food hits to international cuisines.

I was a little disappointed with some of the things in this place only because I was expecting for something more since this a concept of The Vikings Group. I've been to a couple of Vikings restaurant and a few times in NUI by Vikings, which by the way is one of my all-time fave buffet restaurant and it didn't even come close. To make it easier I'll list down what I liked and didn't like from The Alley - not including food reviews yet. I'll have it discussed in the latter part of the blog.

YAY!
  • The place is Instagram -Worthy!
  • The interiors were well-thought-of . The moving clouds and panda chairs were my favorite.
  • I loved the roaming balut vendor.
NAY!
  • The food selection weren't that impressive. Each stall has a unique cuisine to offer but with less options.
  • The "Alley" can be a bit too crowded at times.
  • Item/s ran out even if they just started. ex: Hakaw 😒 we went back 3x for the Hakaw because the 1st time they said they would need to steam it first for like 15 mins and the 2nd and 3rd time they're out of Hakaw. Why they just started operations T_T we came in 5:00 PM for Dinner?
  • They make you wait for your food and pick it up from the stall. EX: Steak and Bagnet. For the steak they give you like those little disk that light up once your order is one and pick it up from from Just Steak A Minute, they could've just gotten your table number and have it delivered. I had to wait for around 10-15 minutes in line for the Bagnet, Where in they could've just taken your order and have it delivered to your table. The older folks behind me were very much dismayed but was not willing to give up because the Bagnet looks absolutely stunning. The Lola behind me said "Pano pag nasarapan ako dito, pipila ulet ako? I could have just spent this time with my family in the table and bonding with them", which make perfect sense! It could've been a better dining experience if we didn't have to stay in the queue for a long time. I know they make it as you order but it still could be improved.
  • Now maybe its just me, but they didn't have free wine. Ok fine its my fault - I got used to NUI 😋
  • They have a coffee bar but they didn't have the option to have a non-fat for their milk. I'm not sure if the actual Nord's have that but I wish they had that option.

first plate more like spread... haha first spread!

Seafood Chowder
It was creamy and that was it.

Seafood in a Pan
It was quite good and flavorful.
Baked Oysters
Yummers! Must Order!

Flavored Calamari and Shrimp Dynamite
Both were delish but my absolute favorite was the Shrimp Dynamite - Perfect pairing for an Iced cold beer or Drink of the Day from Kegz.
Sushi Rolls were good <3

Sashimi and NigiriI love the Salmon Sushi 😍

Cheese selection was not impressive. Edam? Cmon!

😒

Because KETO DIET... not! hehe

Classic Bagnet
Sobrang Sarap wala na kong pakelam kung sumaket batok ko! Sinfully Goooooood!
Ang highlight ng gabi ko! Worth it na din ang pag pila ko pero mas masaya sana kung indi ako pumili ng matagal!

Kinilaw Bagnet
M A S A R A P!!! ANG HIRAP MAGPANGGAP NG WALANG KANIN!!!
Really disappointed with the steak 😔 B and I were really looking forward to steak but it lacked flavor.

Tom YumWith the price tag of Php 888 for dinner I wished they used fresh shrimp for this dish - disappointed with the taste 😒

Roti and Beef RendangBoth were good! The Beef rendang was flavorful and the beef was soft.
Singkamas
If you were to add Singkamas in your buffet might as well add Manggang hilaw right?
This one is cute tho.
Pinoy Street Food Hits! Balut, Sorbetes and Taho!
I had fun eating the Balut till I saw the baby duck 😖

DIY Ice Cream Bar - Coffee Crumble and some random toppings
was the bomb! I love the pausok effect! hehe 😋

Assorted Cakes and Coffee to end the night

There were some hit and miss on the food taste but to cap my review for The Alley by Vikings, in a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest I'll give it a 7. Will I come back? Maybe if I wont have to pay for it. There is a potential for this concept I just hope they improve on their food taste and service. Kudos for the interiors, gotta love em panda chairs - I want one in my room or dining area 😍
